Boys' and Girls' Club of Weston-Mount Dennis |
After School Program
The fundamental goal of the After School program at the Boys and Girls Club of Weston-Mount Dennis is to help children in the Weston-Mount Dennis Community achieve the vast potential that they have by working with them, their parents, the school and the community to overcome the barriers that have been placed in their way and build on their strengths. At its core, this goal is about building hope among children who may, be having difficulties with homework due to learning disabilities, lack of support from teachers and parents, inability to access resources such as computers and other learning tools. For this reason, a central theme of this program is ensuring that children and their families have the chance to believe in themselves and their ability to change the cycle of hopelessness in their community and its role in broader society.
More specifically, the goals of the program are the following.
- to increase the students’ chances of success as they begin and continue through Elementary School by improving their literacy, numeracy and general learning skills,
- to engage parents in their children’s learning and offer support to them, and
- to provide opportunities to children in the Weston-Mount Dennis community.
- To provide quality programming in a safe and nurturing environment
The program aims to engage children in the learning process, giving them the awareness that education can be both enjoyable and relevant and help their parents support them in the educational process.

- tutoring assistance through required attendance at a minimum of two tutoring sessions each week;
- assignment to a High School tutor who will support the student and provide guidance on an ongoing basis; and,
