(Annie recently wrote this speech and presented it in a contest in her school. She had some help with writing and practising her speech from her Raising the Grade program mentor.)
Today I will be talking to you about how being optimistic will help me press on to greater achievements in the future. I also want to share with you my favourite quote about optimism by A.A. Milne – “What day is it?” “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet. My favorite day,” said Pooh.” I truly believe that being optimistic means being positive in your thoughts about the present and the future. It means staying encouraged about the little things, and staying motivated about the big ones. Being an optimist means waking up early because you want to start your day and seize the day!
For me, it means not thinking about the negative side of things, but instead focusing on the positive side of things at all times. When I focus on the positive side of things, I am less likely to get discouraged and want to give up. It’s not always easy to be optimistic. Instead, I want to work hard, and keep doing better in every area of my life. I know this will help me be successful in school, with my career and with my friends and family.
At school, being optimistic helps me to keep working hard to reach my goals of graduating high school in four years with great marks. Sometimes this means asking for extra help and support from teachers or from my parents and my mentor when I get discouraged. Looking on the bright side helps me remember why working hard right now is important. You’ll never know what lies in the future.
I believe that it is important to be optimistic. If I work hard in school, it will help me get into the post-secondary school that I apply to. I look forward to graduating high school and getting to the next stage of my life. I can’t wait to take on new and exciting challenges that will prepare me for success in my career. I have learned that it is important to believe in yourself and that you must follow your dreams. We all need to aim high and search for what makes us the happiest in life.
One day, I hope to look for a job that I love, and have fun while I am at work. I am interested in working with kids with disabilities because it would make me happy to help them achieve their goals. It also brightens up your day to help people overcome their obstacles in life and make a difference. This is one of the reasons why I might choose to work with children in my future.
I also like to ride horses for fun and I like to walk dogs, so I might be interested in working with animals. In the future, I could become a horse trainer and work with horses for a living. These are two examples of professions that would not feel like work because I would be doing something that I love every day.
In my life, I have learned from different experiences that if something bad happens, you don’t give up because it doesn’t help you achieve your goals. It’s also important to always think about the future, and not what has happened in the past that may have brought you down. Feel proud of what you have done and reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Staying optimistic means thinking on the bright side and remembering to stay focused on my future goals, even when things are difficult. The message I would like to give out to students is to work hard and to never give up on your dreams. I want to be inspired and I want to inspire others to believe that they can be a part of a better tomorrow. My optimism helps me stay motivated and look towards the future and what a bright future it will be!
