  1. What is The Inc Sound Studio at St. Alban’s main clubhouse?

The Inc Sound Studio is a recording studio program for youth ages 13+. We provide a dynamic music program that helps to incubate the talents of young musical artists from various communities across Toronto & the GTA by creprogram_photos-48ating a safe and creative atmosphere for positive growth. Our fully functional studio setup allows participants to create instrumentals, record songs, and learn how to mix during their weekly one-on-one session. We also hold monthly workshops for participants on goal setting, performance/recording techniques, etc. The program gives participants a chance to build relationships with other participants over the course of the term, and establish an artist’s network.

  1. program_photos-20How does your studio program work?

After signing up and going through an interview process, youth are given a 1 hour and 45min time slot every week where they are able to work on original music or song covers in private session with one of our engineers. Our program runs in 4 month terms (Sept-Dec, Jan-April, May-Aug), and participants are welcome to re-apply after completing a term.

  1. What types of things are people recording in the studio?

Participants record a wide variety of things including:  self written short-stories,  news reports, cover songs, instrumentals, as well as original tracks complete with beats and lyrics created by them.

  1. Are there any performances or collaborations amongst participants?

At the end of every four month term all the youth in our program have an opportunity to perform 2 or 3 songs that they have been working on at our “My Music” showcase. During the program, youth also have opportunities to collaborate and learn new things collectively in our regular workshops. During these workshops, the youth are encouraged to get familiar with each other’s talents and form partnerships for future in-session collaborations.
