Drop in programs for youth – Fall 2019

Monday-Friday programs

Youth HUB | 3pm-6:00pm | Grade 7 and up
A drop in program where emphasis is placed on team building, community development and life skills.  Opportunities for academic assistance, volunteer positions, and potential future employment are all available here.  Youth Compass has access to the pool, kitchen, gym, outdoor space, computer lab and Digital Arts Zone. This year, will we focus on a monthly Youth Podcast in the DAZ, redesign and paint the mural in the Youth HUB, and participate in a 10 week meditation program. We will also cook, swim, and go on community outings.

The INC Sound Studio | 2-10:00pm
The INC Sound Studio is a fully functional production and recording studio. Our program gives youth a chance to explore the exciting world of music production first hand. Whether it’s recording your first song, completing your next mixed tape, learning about audio engineering, or making your first beat, youth work alongside one of our experienced engineers to make their goals a reality. Sign up required, space is limited.

Monday

Basketball Skills & Fitness | 7-10:00pm
Led by Coach Tony, skills and drills are developed for group trainings which help strengthen teamwork by increasing individual skills.  By using some components of world renowned training, Skills & Fitness will focus largely on core training to help in many facets of the game of basketball.  One-on-one training will become available as specific goals are set by youth.  By increasing their physical activity in a team setting, youth will develop positive social relationships on and off the court.

Youth Council | 5:00-6:00pm
Bring your voice, experience and leadership and discuss key issues facing young people and the ways St. Alban’s can better serve the youth community. Opportunities for leadership conferences and training are only available to members of Youth Council. Contact Cindy at cindy@stalbansclub.ca

DJ Arts | Starts October 7 2019 | 6:00-8:00pm
8 week drop in program for ages 12+
With DJ SelaVie (Selena Vincent) a former youth of St. Alban’s

Youth DJ Arts will engage the creative imagination of youth from all musical backgrounds. With the majority of learning being hands on, we encourage youth to use their early mistakes as a way of discovering new things and to build confidence. This 8-week series is tailored to youth ages 12+, giving you a taste of DJ-ing by learning the technical aspects of mixing and use of equipment. Most importantly, it’s about having fun and playing with sound.

Sole Sisters Running Program – STARTS JANUARY 2020
Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm
Girls ages 12+
Sole Sisters is a program designed to empower teenage girls and their families to embrace a healthy lifestyle by building confidence, developing new skills, and inspiring positive life choices. Be prepared to run in any weather. The girls and mentors will train for a 10k race.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays 6-9:00pm
Registered Program

RTG helps youth who are at risk of dropping out of school to explore, set and achieve their academic and career goals. The RTG program offers academic support, post secondary and career discovery, and opportunities to use technology and quality online resources. In the RTG program, youth will explore their potential interests, careers, and educational opportunities that could be part of their next life stage, whatever that may be. By the end of the program, participants will choose a post-secondary path and be helped to complete the necessary steps to get started, such as applications for college or university programs and /or financial assistance.

Skateboarding | 7-10:00pm
Whether you’re a beginner, expert or anywhere in between, our indoor skate park is ideal!  Quarter pipes, rails and a variety of ramps give you all the options.  With instructors on hand, one-on-one coaching is available any time. Come get your grind on!  Helmets are mandatory.

Cooking 101 | 6:30-8:30pm | Starts September 24
Come gain some valuable life skills in the kitchen! Culinary expert Hollis provides unique recipes each week, along with basic kitchen etiquette. Everything from recipe research, cost efficient shopping, healthy ingredient options and of course – cooking!  FREE food has never been this delicious!

Youth/Adult Soccer  | 8:30-10:00pm

Sistahood | 6:00-8:30pm For Girls in Grade 9+
Sistahood is a social group for high school aged girls to gather and discuss issues that are relevant to their daily lives as well as topics that they are interested in.

Friday

Basketball | 7-10:00pm
A night when all the alumni come back to where it started, and attempt to show the young guys (and girls) who’s in charge! Very competitive pick-up games go all night long to see which team will be crowned “This Week’s Champs!” Come early, meet fellow basketball lovers and catch a real sweat!

Girls on the Move | 6:30-8:30pm | Grades 6-8
A program created to empower girls with the necessary tools to succeed in this challenging world and to become healthy, educated, contributing young women. The members participate in workshops about cooking, healthy food choices and healthy body image. The group takes part in weekend seminars where they have an opportunity to bond and spend time together. The group also volunteers around the Club and within the Community.
