Drop-In Programs for Youth

Monday-Friday programs

Youth Compass | 3pm-6:00pm | Grade 7 and up
A drop in program where emphasis is placed on team building, community development and life skills.  Opportunities for academic assistance, volunteer positions, and potential future employment are all available here.  Youth Compass has access to the pool, kitchen, gym, outdoor space, computer lab and Digital Arts Zone.  We will provide as many different activities, in as many different spaces as possible, which will often result in Youth Compass being out of the building, exploring what the city has to offer!  New addition: monthly outings to U of T Hart House participating in exciting activities like archery, bubble soccer, dance, etc.

The INC Sound Studio | 2-10:00pm
The INC Sound Studio is a fully functional production and recording studio. Our program gives youth a chance to explore the exciting world of music production first hand. Whether it’s recording your first song, completing your next mixed tape, learning about audio engineering, or making your first beat, youth work alongside one of our experienced engineers to make their goals a reality. Sign up required, space is limited.

Monday

Youth Chill Zone
Mondays and Wednesdays | 6 – 6:30pm
Come out to the Chill Zone prior to engaging in your youth program – mingle with other youth and youth workers. Enjoy light snacks and partake in discussions. TTC tokens will be provided to youth that meet the criteria. Van shuttle pick ups and drop off locations to be announced!

DIY Craft Night | For Ages 10 -14 | 6-8:00pm
Do it yourself fashion, jewelry, room decor, beauty products and more! Each week we will do a different art project. Come hang out and let your creativity shine!

Basketball Skills & Drills | 7-10:00pm
Led by Coach Tony, skills and drills are developed for group trainings which help strengthen teamwork by increasing individual skills.  By using some components of world renowned training, Skills & Drills will focus largely on core training to help in many facets of the game of basketball.  One-on-one training will become available as specific goals are set by youth.  By increasing their physical activity in a team setting, youth will develop positive social relationships on and off the court.

Youth Council | 5-6:00pm
Bring your voice, experience and leadership and discuss key issues facing young people and the ways St. Alban’s can better serve the youth community. Opportunities for leadership conferences, training and Camp Smitty are only available to members of Youth Council. Contact Cindy at cindy@stalbansclub.ca

Sole Sisters Running Program
Mondays and Wednesdays 6-8:00pm
Girls ages 12+
Program starts October 11th
Sole Sisters is a program designed to empower teenage girls and their families to embrace a healthy lifestyle by building confidence, developing new skills, and inspiring positive life choices. Be prepared to run in any weather. The girls and mentors will train for a 10k race.
Registration and Information Night on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 6:30pm – come prepared for a short run!

Tuesday

Raising the Grade (RTG)
Tuesdays & Thursdays 6-9:00pm
Registered Program
RTG helps youth who are at risk of dropping out of school to explore, set and achieve their academic and career goals. The RTG program offers academic support, post secondary and career discovery, and opportunities to use technology and quality online resources. In the RTG program, youth will explore their potential interests, careers, and educational opportunities that could be part of their next life stage, whatever that may be. By the end of the program, participants will choose a post-secondary path and be helped to complete the necessary steps to get started, such as applications for college or university programs and /or financial assistance. Orientation and goal setting date/meet and greet is Thursday September 14th at 6pm. Regular programming starts Tuesday September 19.

Skateboarding | 7-10:00pm
Whether you’re a beginner, expert or anywhere in between, our indoor skate park is ideal!  Quarter pipes, rails and a variety of ramps give you all the options.  With instructors Noah and Yash on hand, one-on-one coaching is available any time. Come get your grind on!

Cooking 101 | 6-9:00pm
Come gain some valuable life skills in the kitchen! Culinary expert Hollis provides unique recipes each week, along with basic kitchen etiquette. Everything from recipe research, cost efficient shopping, healthy ingredient options and of course – cooking!  FREE food has never been this delicious!

Photography | 6-7:30pm
Want to be able to take photos like a pro? We’ll learn about lighting and composition using cameras that aren’t phones!

Wednesday

Ball Hockey | 7-10:00pm
Pick-up games and skills competitions make Wednesday evenings a blast!  Very popular among staff members too, ball hockey is one of the best kept secrets here.  The annual “Sturino Cup” ball hockey tournament is where all the bragging rights are on the line, so come see the competition throughout the year and get your team ready early. Goalies are always in high demand, so if you are a goalie or know someone who is a goalie, you’ll be the real MVP every week!

Dance | 7:30-8:30pm
Exploring the texture within the sound and movement of hip hop and house.  All levels welcome!

Volleyball | 7-8:30pm
Volleyball enthusiast Michael is always ready for competition.  With his passion for improving youth people’s skills, Big Mike is always willing and able to lead group or individual skill building drills.  Bump, set, SPIKE!

Youth/Adult Soccer  | 8:30-10:00pm

Sistahood | 6:30-9:00pm For Girls in Grade 9+
Sistahood is a social group for high school aged girls to gather and discuss issues that are relevant to their daily lives as well as topics that they are interested in.

Friday

Basketball | 7-10:00pm
A night when all the alumni come back to where it started, and attempt to show the young guys (and girls) who’s in charge! Very competitive pick-up games go all night long to see which team will be crowned “This Week’s Champs!” Come early, meet fellow basketball lovers and catch a real sweat!
